Complete the following exercise 3–5 times per day, for approximately 5 minutes per session.

Setup

  • Choose a quiet area with minimal distractions to set your dog up for success.

  • Use a long line or flexi lead to allow freedom while maintaining control.

  • Ensure the e-collar is fitted correctly, turned on, and set to the dog’s working level.

Step-by-Step Process

  • Take your dog to a quiet area where they can walk and explore calmly.

  • Connect the long line or flexi lead and allow the dog to move freely, sniff, and engage with the environment.

  • Wait until the dog is fully engaged, this means they’re distracted by smells, sights, or sounds and not focused on you.

  • Give your recall command clearly, and press and hold the stimulation button at the same time.

  • Mark the recall immediately as the dog turns and starts heading back to you, use a verbal “yes!” or a clicker.

  • Keep the stimulation continuous as the dog returns. Do not release the stim until the recall is complete.

  • As soon as the dog reaches you, release the stimulation and immediately reward with food, praise, or a toy.

  • Repeat the process for multiple repetitions within the session.

Tips:

  • Maintain a calm, upbeat recall tone throughout.

  • Use the long line to gently guide if the dog hesitates.

  • Avoid overloading the dog, short, successful reps are better than long, frustrating ones.

End every session on a high note, and always reward effort.
