Complete the following exercise 3–5 times per day, for approximately 5 minutes per session.
Setup
Choose a quiet, secure area with minimal distractions—such as a fenced field or enclosed park.
Ensure your dog is wearing a properly fitted e-collar, turned on, and set to their working level.
Only run this session off-lead if you have already established reliable recall on a long line.
Step-by-Step Process
Take your dog to the quiet area where they can explore safely.
Unclip the lead and allow your dog to roam freely.
Observe your dog’s behaviour.
Wait until they are engaged with the environment—sniffing, exploring, or distracted.Give your recall command clearly and press and hold the stimulation button at the same time.
Mark the recall with a “yes!” or clicker as soon as the dog turns and begins to return to you.
Keep the stimulation continuous—do not release the stim until the dog has fully completed the recall and returned to you.
Once the dog arrives, release the stimulation and immediately reward with food, praise, or a toy.
Repeat the process several times within the 5-minute session.
Important Notes:
Ensure your dog has a history of success on-lead before progressing to off-lead work.
Keep your recall cue consistent and positive.
If your dog ignores the command, regain control calmly and do not chase—reset and try again later.
Always end on a win. Build trust, clarity, and motivation.
