E-Collar Recall Conditioning from the Bed Complete the following exercise 3–5 times per day, for approx. 5 minutes per session. Use a long line or flexi lead for control. Ensure the dog is motivated (use high-value food or a favourite toy). Have the e-collar fitted properly and turned on.
1. Walk the dog to the designated bed or place. Guide them calmly and have them stay there.
2. Create distance. Walk away from the dog about 3 to 5 metres
3. Initiate the recall. At the same moment you give your recall command, press and hold the stimulation button.
4. Mark the decision. The moment the dog leaves the bed, mark the behaviour (e.g., say "yes!" or use a clicker).
5. Release the stimulation. When the dog has completed the recall (i.e., reaches you), release the stim button.
6. Reward generously. Give the dog their reward (treat, praise, or toy) immediately to reinforce the recall.
Notes: Keep the tone of your recall cue cheerful and consistent. If the dog hesitates, guide with the long line and keep the stim level at their working level. Then reset the dog back on the bed and repeat. Keep sessions short, positive, and productive.
End each session on a success.
